Fusee chain Lange & Söhne

A rare watchmaking task: A fusee chain in the A. Lange & Söhne workshops

On his seventh visit in 15 years to Glashütte (near Dresden, Germany), Jean-Philippe Arm witnessed for the first time a most unusual watchmaking operation — the fitting of a fusee chain in the A. Lange & Söhne workshops.

The company was the first to mount this constant-force device in a wristwatch in 1994. Since then it has become a feature of its "Pour Le Merite" collection.

The chain of micro links connects the barrel, which provides the power, to the conical gearing of the fusee.
